Destructive Fireflies Festival

Nowadays a festival is organized commercially every year under the cute name of ‘Kajwa Mahotsav’ and it attracts large crowds in sensitive areas of Sahyadri. Actually, this period is the breeding season of fireflies. The process is hampered by the crowding in the name of ‘Mahotsav’. This unnecessary overcrowding is threatening the extinction of fireflies… says environmentalist Sayali Palande-Datar.
