भारत हा एक जैवविविधतेने नटलेला देश. येथील वनस्पती आणि प्राणी अनुवांशिक संसाधनांच्या संपत्ती पाठीमागे कमीतकमी चार प्रमुख कारणे आहेत. ती म्हणजे सांस्कृतिक विविधता (आध्यात्मिक मूल्यांसहित), पाककृतीतील विविधता, गुणकारी विविधता (औषधी वनस्पतींची विविधता) आणि परिसंस्थेची विविधता.

या घटकांपैकी अध्यात्मिक मूल्यांनी अनेक महत्त्वाच्या वनस्पती आणि झाडे वाचविण्यात प्रचंड हातभार लावला आहे.

या पुस्तकात असंख्य पवित्र झाडे आणि देवराया यांचे मनमोहक वर्णन आहे. पुरातन काळापासून विशिष्ट झाडांना पावित्र्य प्रदान करण्याच्या आपल्या पूर्वजांच्या प्रयत्नांचे वर्णनही या पुस्तकात केले आहे.
